  • 500g minced beef £2 or Meat free alternative such as Quorn £1.50 (454g)
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato puree 5p (45p per tube)
  • 1 can of chopped tomatoes 31p
  • 150g sliced mushrooms 40p
  • 2 cloves of garlic crushed 8p (27p per bulb) or 1 teaspoon of garlic puree 10p (72p for 90g)
  • 1 onion sliced or diced 17p
  • 1 pepper of your choice, sliced 33p (3 for £1)
  • 500g spaghetti 20p
  • Sprinkle of fresh or dried basil or oregano (optional) 48p (dried)
  • Cheese to sprinkle on top to serve (optional) Approx 75p


  1. Brown 500g of minced beef in a large frying pan
  2. Add the onion, chopped mushrooms and pepper and cook for three to five minutes until softened
  3. Add the tablespoon of tomato puree
  4. Stir in one or two crushed garlic cloves and the chopped tomatoes along with the herbs
  5. Bring to the boil and simmer for 15-20 minutes
  6. Meanwhile, cook the Spaghetti and serve with your bolognese sauce on top and a sprinkle of cheese
