Overpaying on your energy bills where you can in the warmer months can create a safety net of money ready for the colder months, which can reduce your stress around energy costs. For example, if you top up an extra £3 per week from 10th April until the 10th of October, you could have an emergency fund of £78 to spend on energy over the winter

2.

Save money by reducing the amount you use your tumble dryer. Instead, put your washing through an extra spin cycle to get more water out, meaning it will dry faster on an airer or the radiator! Don’t forget to open a window to ventilate when drying clothes.

3.

When boiling the kettle, only boil the amount of water that you need! This saves on both water and electricity!

4.

Turn off the tap when you clean your teeth. A running tap uses, on average, up to nine litres of water a minute, the cost soon adds up!

5.

If you aren't using that subscription service, cancel it! From gym memberships to music subscriptions and tv packages. There are lots of free versions or trials that you can use alternatively!

6.

More than 98% of people leave their TV on standby all the time, by turning your TV off completely you could save money. If you also fully turn off your games console, you can save around even more! For accurate stats, check out the Smart Energy Website.
