Pasta Bolognese

Pasta Bolognese is a great staple meal. It is easy to adapt quantities and make it for as many people as needed. You can add other vegetables, change it to spaghetti or bake it with a cheese top, the options are endless!

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of oil,
  • 1 onion,
  • 1 large carrot,
  • 1 tin of tomatoes,
  • 500g mince,
  • 250g pasta,
  • Seasoning: salt, pepper, mixed herbs and garlic

Method

  1. Place a medium size saucepan, ¾ full of water, on high heat to boil.
  2. Chop one onion finely and and add to a frying pan on a medium heat, with a teaspoon of oil.
  3. Whilst the onions fry, wash the carrot and then grate it.
  4. Add 500g mince in the pan and break it up so it can cook evenly. Mix occasionally until it is browned.
  5. When the water starts boiling, add 250g of pasta, turn down to a medium heat and leave to cook for around 10-15 minutes, or until soft.
  6. Once the mince is browned and cooked, mix in the grated carrot.
  7. Now, add the tin of tomatoes and seasonings to the frying pan. Alternatively, you can use a premade jar of pasta sauce. Mix this to combine with the contents of the pan.
  8. Leave this to simmer on a low heat for 5-10 minutes.
  9. When the pasta is cooked and soft, drain the pasta water.
  10. Plate up the pasta and bolognese mix, now enjoy!
